Strategies for Successful Partnerships


​Culled from interviews with educators who have successfully established and maintained industry and business relationships, the practices below have proven effective in fostering supportive, impactful industry-education relationships that verify program alignment with workforce needs, ensure technological currency and increase student success.

Initiating Partnerships

Sustaining Partnerships
  1. Establish personal contact with industry members
  2. Make it clear "what's in it for them"
  3. Leverage the networks and connections of your existing partners
  4. Utilize personal and staff industry networks
  5. Provide program access and outreach
  6. Invite potential partners to provide industry input 
  7. Be active in professional associations, organizations and societies
  8. Formalize the partnership 
  9. Research companies, and individuals within companies
  10. Allocate staff for building partnerships
